PhD student Nanna Selmer recently completed a four-week research stay at the Institute of Nursing Science (INS), University of Basel, Switzerland. The purpose of the visit was to become part of an international research environment, exchange knowledge and experiences, and gain insight into current research projects on geriatric nursing, care transitions, and the implementation of new clinical interventions.<\/p>\n

As part of her stay, Nanna visited the geriatric hospital Universit\u00e4re Altersmedizin FELIX PLATTER, where she met with researchers from the AdvantAGE project. The project investigates how follow-up interventions can improve patients’ care trajectories after discharge, while Nanna’s PhD project focuses on developing prediction models to identify older medical patients with multimorbidity who are at high risk of hospital readmission. <\/p>\n

Although the two projects use different methods and pursue different objectives, they address closely related challenges. The meeting led to inspiring academic discussions about how research can contribute to more integrated patient pathways and highlighted new opportunities for future collaboration. <\/p>\n

During her stay, Nanna also attended the IMPACT \u2013 Swiss Implementation Science Conference in Zurich. The conference brought together researchers, clinicians, and decision-makers with a focus on implementation science and on translating evidence-based solutions into clinical practice. Presentations on implementation strategies, complex interventions, and cross-sector collaboration provided new perspectives on how research findings can create value for both patients and the healthcare system. <\/p>\n

The research stay has strengthened international collaborations and contributed new perspectives on research into older medical patients, cross-sector collaboration, and implementation. At the same time, it highlighted the value of international knowledge exchange, demonstrating how different research projects can inspire one another and contribute to the development of safer and more integrated transitions between hospital and home for older patients. <\/p>\n
