Gitte Bunkenborg, from the Department of Cardiology Research, has been appointed Professor of Nursing at Zealand University Hospital.
Her research focuses on strengthening continuity of care for vulnerable patients living with severe heart disease:
“This is known as transitional care \u2013 nursing that supports patients through care transitions. What is new about our approach is that we focus on both internal hospital transitions and cross-sector transitions. We develop supportive interventions for vulnerable patients during these transitions, helping them gain the greatest possible benefit from the specialised care and treatment they receive. This support is particularly important when patients move to a new ward, another department, a different hospital site, or are discharged home. Helping patients manage life with heart disease \u2013 for example, by understanding their condition and recognising symptoms of deterioration early \u2013 is essential to ensuring that nothing is lost during these transitions. This is not only crucial for patients but also helps avoid unnecessary costs to the healthcare system.” <\/p>\n
Zealand University Hospital is now recognised as one of Denmark’s strongest nursing research environments. This achievement reflects many years of dedicated efforts to advance research in nursing and patient care.<\/p>\n
